    What is Osteopathic Manual Therapy?

Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT) is a holistic form of hands-on therapy or “Manual Medicine”. This means that any part of the body that is in pain or dysfunction can benefit since OMT’s goal is to restore proper function to the body. An Osteopath practices OMT by applying very gentle but powerful techniques to realign the body and stimulate its inherent natural ability to heal itself. The results of Osteopathy are often fast and long-term!

  • What Does Osteopathy (OMT) Help?

An Osteopathic assessment looks past misleading symptoms and directs the course of treatment to the SOURCE of the problem.

    Osteopaths treat such conditions as:

    • Neck and Back Pain
    • Sciatica
    • Headaches/Migraines
    • Joint and Muscle Pain
    • Traumatic Injury
    • Motor Vehicle Accident Injuries
    • Chronic Digestive Disorders ie. IBS
    • Overuse Injuries
    • Poor Digestion
    • TMJ Disorders

The list above includes problems that often occur or develop with everyday living, but OMT is not limited to these conditions. OMT is also commonly used as therapy for medically diagnosed problems such as:

    • Chronic Digestive disorders
    • Gastric Reflux
    • Chronic Ear Infections
    • Lung Congestion
    • Sinus Drainage Problems

Osteopathy has also been clinically proven to help various mood and emotional disorders such as Depression and Anxiety by treating the body’s nervous and hormonal systems.

The Difference between Osteopathy and Other Types of Therapies

Osteopathic Manual Therapy (OMT) is by far the most comprehensive form of manual hands-on medicine and therapy practiced in North America. There are many other forms of manual therapy available, but none are as holistic and all-encompassing as Osteopathy.

Many therapists have discovered that their particular treatment is limited in its ability to assess and treat the WHOLE body, thereby fully healing it. OMT is an additional 6 years of education for these already trained therapists. OMT gives its practitioner the ability to assess everything from the heart and circulatory system, to the lungs, liver, stomach, intestines and even the bones and muscles of the skull. The potential of OMT is near limitless in its application.
